Biografi
Thorkild I. A. Sørensen graduated as a doctor in 1971 and worked at hospitals around Copenhagen until 1989, when he became a full-time researcher, initially as a research professor.
From 1993 to 2017, he was head of the hospital-based Institute of Preventive Medicine (now part of Center for Clinical Research and Prevention, Frederiksberg Hospital). In the period 1994-2020, he was professor at the University of Copenhagen in various epidemiological subjects at the Department of Public Health Sciences and from 2011 at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
In 2020, he became Professor Emeritus. Much of his research has - throughout his career - focused on the causes and consequences of obesity and its sequelae as a basis for prevention and treatment, very often in national and international cooperation. In recent years a unifying theory of the causes and consequences of obesity has emerged too.
