Biography

Type 2 diabetes and obesity are a heritable multifactorial disease with incompletely understood etiologic biological pathways. Previous studies have shown that the considerable heterogeneity in phenotypic characteristics and treatment responses of type 2 diabetes patients, subgrouping of patients may yield more effective treatment procedures.

The Pers Group has a particular focus on identifying and characterizing central mechanisms through which genetic variants associated with obesity and diabetes are exerting their effects on disease susceptibility.

To better understand how dysregulation of the brain may impact susceptibility towards obesity and type 2 diabetes, they use in vivo rodent models, human clinical data, single-cell transcriptomics and epigenomics techniques and computational integration of single-cell data with large-scale human genetic association data.
