Agnete Kirkeby

Associate Professor

Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Research and Developmental Biology (DanStem), University of Copenhagen

Biography

The main focus of Agnete Kirkeby’s group is to use human pluripotent stem cells to generate subtype-specific neural cells in 2D and 3D for disease modelling and transplantation therapy. During her time at Lund University, Agnete has led the preclinical development of a stem cell-based therapy for treatment of Parkinson’s Disease (STEM-PD), which has now entered first-in-human clinical trial in Sweden. Moreover, Agnete’s group works on studying human brain development through stem cells models and on producing complex in vitro models of human neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimers Disease and Parkinson’s Disease with the purpose of developing novel disease-modifying treatments.
