Sasha A S Kjeldsen, MSc in Human Physiology, PhD, is postdoc at The Department of Clinical Biochemistry at Copenhagen University hospital Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg.
Her main research focus pertains to investigating the etiology and pathophysiology of metabolic diseases, including steatotic liver disease and diabetes. She is particularly interested in the effects of gastrointestinal hormones, especially glucagon-like peptides, on metabolism, and how impairments in inter-organ communication contributes to metabolic disease.
Clinical biochemistry is instrumental in the development of diagnostic tests, treatments, and the broader understanding of disease mechanisms. By leveraging biochemical analyses, the research group has been able to capture and characterize dysmetabolic conditions across populations. This approach has enabled them to identify biomarkers and pinpoint potential disease mechanisms and pathways that contribute to the onset and progression of metabolic disease.
