Dr. rer. nat.
Functional genomics and molecular pathogenesis of complex diseases have been my major subjects for the last 20 years. The interplay between disease susceptibility, manifestation and progression in chronic inflammatory bowel diseases is of particular interest to me, and my current research focuses on epigenetic mechanisms and host-microbiome interactions contributing to disease mechanisms.
My latest projects aim at generating direct benefits for patients suffering from chronic inflammation by employing translational research concepts.
