The study of human metabolism is central to my research. Throughout my career, I've examined how diet and exercise affect health and disease. I have received funding from various organizations (e.g., AHA, NIH/NIDDK, A*STAR, NMRC, NNF, DFF, Nestle, Arla) to explore the impact of exercise, diet, obesity, weight change, sex differences, and fatty liver on metabolism, lipid kinetics, and insulin sensitivity in muscle, liver, and adipose tissue. I consider myself a “metabolist.”

My goal is to advance scientific knowledge on diet and exercise effects on health through innovative research at the intersection of biochemistry, metabolism, and physiology. I use methods like glucose tolerance tests, hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamps, DXA, MRI, tissue biopsies, and indirect calorimetry. My focus remains on the physiological questions, using any tool necessary to find answers.
