Biografi

Azadeh Shahsavar is an associate professor at the University of Copenhagen whose research focuses on membrane proteins involved in cellular transport and signalling. Her work investigates how transport proteins move molecules such as neurotransmitters and amino acids across cell membranes, and how these processes influence health and disease.

A central theme in her research is understanding the molecular mechanisms regulating communication between nerve cells and maintaining cellular balance. Using structural biology techniques including cryo-electron microscopy, she studies how transporters change shape and interact with drugs and signalling molecules at atomic resolution.

Her research is particularly relevant to neurological disorders and chronic pain. By linking protein structure to biological function, Shahsavar’s work aims to support development of more selective and precise medicines targeting disrupted neurotransmission.
