Fast, reliable diagnostics and effective infection prevention are crucial. Currently, 50% of children receive unnecessary antibiotics in their first two years, and 30% are hospitalized due to infections, leading to significant socio-economic and human costs and fueling the antibiotic resistance crisis.
CAG CHILD aims to enhance the prevention and treatment of infections in children. This initiative unites dedicated researchers and clinicians, including all pediatric wards in Denmark's Capital Region, enabling the collection of biological material for research. CAG CHILD will generate evidence-based strategies and improve the application of new knowledge, thereby reducing the impact of these diseases.
Infections are the leading cause of illness among Danish children, responsible for 10% of deaths in children under one year. They range from common, non-severe airway infections to life-threatening conditions like meningitis.
