In 2016, she joined the research group of prof. Jiri Lukas at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research as a Ph.D. student within the Copenhagen Bioscience Ph.D. Program. During her Ph.D. studies in the laboratory of prof. Jiri Lukas, she discovered a new function of inactive MCMs during DNA replication, which is essential for alleviating genome instability and thus suppressing the development of serious diseases, including cancer (Sedlackova H, et al. Nature 2020).
In her recent study (Polasek-Sedlackova H, et al. Nature Communications, 2022), she developed a new imaging technique and visualize the MCM proteins at DNA replication sites inside cells, which enables to study the dynamics of DNA replication and the emergence of replication stress—a hallmark of cancer—directly in living cells.
In 2022, she received a prestigious starting grant JUNIOR STAR from Czech Science Foundation and became a group leader at the Institute of Biophysics.
