Biography
Sonya Hessey is a Clinical Lecturer at the UCL Cancer Institute, University College London, and an oncology registrar specialising in lung cancer. Her research combines clinical oncology, cancer genomics and evolutionary biology to understand how non-small cell lung cancer spreads, evolves and develops resistance to treatment. She is a member of the TRACERx and PEACE research programmes, using longitudinal patient samples and rapid autopsy studies to reconstruct the evolutionary history of primary tumours and metastases. Her work integrates genomic sequencing with clinical data to identify how metastatic disease develops and to improve prediction of cancer progression, with the long-term goal of enabling more personalised treatment strategies for patients with advanced lung cancer.
