Biography
Sandra Søgaard Tøttenborg is Head of Environmental Research at the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and Associate Professor at the Section of Environmental Health, Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen.
Her research examines the health effects of occupational and environmental chemical exposures, including PFAS and PCBs, with particular emphasis on fetal exposure, combined chemical exposures and their long-term health consequences. She integrates nationwide register-based data with well-characterised clinical cohorts, several of which she has helped establish, to apply advanced exposure assessment and novel methodological approaches to unresolved questions in environmental health.
In parallel, Tøttenborg maps environmental exposures and identifies highly exposed populations, contributing to a precise understanding of risk and vulnerability. Her work in a hospital setting supports prevention, diagnosis and evidence-based public health decision.
