Biography

Pia Ryt-Hansen is a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, specializing in Veterinary Clinical Microbiology. She holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Technical University of Denmark and earned her PhD from the National Veterinary Institute, focusing on virology and infectious diseases.

Her research primarily investigates respiratory viruses affecting swine and equine species. She has studied the emergence of reassortant A(H1N1) influenza viruses in Danish swine populations, assessing their zoonotic potential, and has contributed to the characterization of equine herpesvirus 4 (EHV-4) outbreaks. Her expertise includes viral pathogenesis, molecular diagnostics, and epidemiological tracing.
