Biography
Antimicrobial resistance is one of the most significant health challenges faced by humanity, threatening the treatment of infections and clinical practices dependent on effective antibiotics. It is an unavoidable consequence of the selection pressure from antibiotic use in human treatment and animal feeding, which targets susceptible bacteria. Understanding the impact of this process on bacterial physiology and adaptation within the context of the infection environment is crucial.
My research focuses on this critical area, using classical microbiology and cutting-edge omics analyses like genomics and transcriptomics. I also employ laboratory model systems to simulate human infections in vitro. These methodologies aim to advance our understanding of bacterial adaptation during infection, particularly regarding antimicrobial resistance, and to develop strategies to mitigate its impact on human health.
