Biography
Nora I. Strom focuses on the genetic foundations of mental health. Her research explores how common and rare genetic variants contribute to psychiatric conditions such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and tic disorders. She uses large genome-wide association studies involving tens of thousands of participants to identify risk genes and clarify how these relate to brain function. Strom has co-authored landmark studies that revealed the polygenic nature of obsessive-compulsive symptoms and uncovered genetic and neurobiological patterns linked to Tourette’s syndrome and related disorders. With more than 40 scientific publications, she collaborates widely across Europe and North America, applying statistical and computational methods to better understand why some people develop psychiatric disorders while others remain resilient.
