Biography
Dr. Michael Kuhn is a Research Staff Scientist and Coordinator at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany. His work is centered in the Bork group, where he specializes in computational biology.
Michael Kuhn has made significant contributions to the field, particularly through the development and utilization of databases that integrate protein-chemical interactions with phenotypic data such as drug side effects.
Michael Kuhn holds a Ph.D. from EMBL, where he focused on the prediction of drug targets using side effect similarity and on uncovering the molecular bases of drug side effects.
His research continues to impact the field by facilitating the study of molecular biology through computational methods and large-scale data analysis. For example, Michael collaborated with microbiologists in the research group of Nassos Typas at EMBL to show that about a quarter of human-targeted drugs actually also have an impact on the gut microbiome.
