Biography

Mattia Russel Pantalone is a resident doctor at the Department of Neurosurgery at Linköping University Hospital and a postdoctoral researcher at Karolinska Institutet. His work focuses on neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, and the treatment of malignant brain tumours, particularly how viral infections, immune responses, and tumour biology influence the progression of glioblastoma and other aggressive brain cancers.

A central theme in his research is the role of latent viral infections, particularly cytomegalovirus, in patients with glioblastoma. Combining clinical studies with translational research, he investigates whether antiviral therapies and improved management of viral reactivation can enhance outcomes alongside surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy.

By linking virology, immunology, and neuro-oncology, Pantalone aims to translate biological insights into improved patient care and contribute to new treatment strategies for one of the most aggressive forms of cancer.
