Biography
Kathleen Stewart-Morgan is an assistant professor at the University of Copenhagen whose research focuses on epigenetics and how cells maintain or change their identity. Her work investigates how chromatin—the complex of DNA and proteins that packages the genome—is reorganised during cell division and how this influences gene regulation and cellular memory.
A central theme in her research is understanding how epigenetic information is transmitted when cells replicate their DNA. She studies how chromatin structure, histone modifications, and genome organisation are re-established after DNA replication and how temporary disruptions can create opportunities for cells to change identity. By combining molecular biology, genomics, and imaging approaches, she explores the mechanisms that preserve or reshape cellular fate.
Her research contributes to understanding development, cell reprogramming, and regenerative medicine by revealing how cells balance stability with the capacity for change.
