Biography

Julie Aarestrup is part of the Lifecourse Epidemiology Group at the Center for Clinical Research and Prevention, Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital. She has a specific interest in understanding the complexity of overweight and obesity, including its long-term health consequences. Using large register-based studies, she has examined how overweight and obesity in children and adolescents during school ages impacts the risk of, for example, different cancer forms as well as several female hormone-related diseases, mainly using the Copenhagen School Health Records Register of approximately 400,000 children. Her work found that BMI during childhood ages can be used as an indicator of future risks of many diseases occurring later in life.
