Biography
Julie Schmidt's research focuses on epidemiology and cancer studies, with a particular emphasis on how social factors influence adherence to treatment. One of her key studies examines the impact of social circumstances on compliance with antihormonal therapy in women with breast cancer. The findings reveal that single women and those unemployed are more likely to discontinue this life-saving treatment prematurely, increasing their risk of recurrence.
Her work also explores the role of pre-diagnostic circulating lipid metabolites in the risk of developing colorectal cancer and investigates dietary influences on the risk of various types of stroke. Through her research, Schmidt highlights the critical role social determinants play in cancer treatment outcomes and underscores the need for targeted support for vulnerable patient groups.
