Biography

Dr Elizabeth Ng leads the Blood Development Laboratory at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI). She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Melbourne and earned her PhD from Monash University in 2013. Her research focuses on generating transplantable haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) from human pluripotent stem cells for tissue repair, disease modeling, and therapeutic testing. Dr Ng has developed and patented protocols for efficient haematopoietic differentiation, including APEL medium, which supports large-scale blood cell production and is now commercialized by STEMCELL Technologies. Collaborating with Professors Andrew Elefanty and Ed Stanley, she has made significant contributions to advancing differentiation systems, cell culture media, and the genetic modification of human pluripotent stem cells, positioning them as powerful tools for research and therapeutic development.
