Boe Sandahl Sørensen

Professor

the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at Aarhus University Hospital

Biography

Professor Boe Sandahl Sørensen develops ultra-sensitive blood tests to detect and monitor cancer through traces of tumour DNA. His research focuses on circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) and how it can be used to track treatment response, detect relapse early, and guide personalised cancer therapy. Sørensen’s team has contributed to several national and international clinical studies, particularly within lung cancer, where ctDNA can reveal resistance mutations long before they show up on scans. His work also explores how patterns in fragmented DNA (fragmentomics) can offer insight into tumour activity, and how drug levels and response can be monitored using advanced lab techniques. Through close collaboration with hospitals and clinicians, Sørensen’s research brings cutting-edge molecular tools into everyday cancer care.
