Biografi

Virginia Anne Nichols is Associate Professor of Agroecology at Aarhus University. Her research focuses on sustainable agriculture, with particular emphasis on soil health, nutrient cycling and the role of cover crops in reducing environmental impacts of farming.

Nichols studies how agricultural practices influence nutrient loss, greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity, especially during fallow periods when fields are vulnerable to leaching. Her work combines field experiments, long-term data and systems-level analysis to evaluate how different management strategies affect both productivity and environmental outcomes. She is particularly interested in identifying practical solutions that balance farm economics with sustainability.

By linking ecological processes with real-world farming systems, her research contributes to developing more resilient and environmentally responsible agricultural practices.
