Biografi
Sadaf Farooqi is a professor of metabolism and medicine at the University of Cambridge specialising in the biology of obesity and appetite regulation. Her research has transformed understanding of severe obesity by showing that body weight is strongly influenced by biology, not simply by willpower or lifestyle choices.
Farooqi studies the genetic and hormonal pathways that regulate hunger, satiety, and energy balance. Through research on patients with rare genetic mutations affecting appetite regulation, she helped identify key mechanisms in the brain that control food intake and energy homeostasis. Her work also showed that some forms of severe obesity can be treated by targeting specific biological pathways, contributing to precision medicine approaches and reshaping scientific understanding of obesity as a biologically driven disease.
