Micali’s work combines clinical studies with large-scale population and register-based data to understand risk factors, early trajectories and outcomes of conditions such as anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder. She is particularly interested in how biological, psychological and social factors interact in the development of eating disorders, and how these conditions affect both physical and mental health over time.
