Biografi

Moritz Gerstung is a computational biologist who uses artificial intelligence to understand and predict cancer. Originally trained as a physicist, he earned his PhD in computational biology at ETH Zurich and went on to study cancer genome evolution at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. He later led a research group at EMBL-EBI before becoming head of the Division of Artificial Intelligence and Cancer Evolution at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and professor at Heidelberg University. His team combines machine learning, evolutionary modelling and large-scale genomic and clinical data to map how tumours develop and respond to treatment. More recently, his work has expanded to predictive health AI, developing models that can forecast disease risk years in advance. Across all projects, his goal is to use data and algorithms to move medicine from treatment toward earlier detection and prevention.
