Milena Monfort-Pires is a senior researcher at the University of Turku whose work focuses on human metabolism, nutrition, and metabolic health. Her research investigates how dietary factors, gut-derived metabolites, and metabolic tissues interact to influence energy balance and cardiometabolic function.
A central theme in her work is understanding how signals originating in the gut affect organs involved in metabolism, including brown adipose tissue. By combining clinical studies, metabolic measurements, and biomarker analyses, she explores how nutrients and microbial metabolites influence energy expenditure, glucose regulation, and metabolic health.
Her research aims to uncover mechanisms linking diet, the gut microbiome, and metabolic function in humans. By integrating nutritional science with physiology and metabolism research, Monfort-Pires contributes to new strategies for preventing and treating obesity, type 2 diabetes, and related metabolic disorders.
