Biografi

Dr Jan Czogalla is a clinician-scientist specializing in transplant nephrology at the University Medical Center Hamburg‑Eppendorf (UKE), Germany. He completed his medical studies in Münster and undertook doctoral research on renal physiology and acute kidney injury at the University of Münster and the University of California San Diego. He then pursued post-doctoral work in Zürich on renal potassium handling. Since 2019, his research centre has been kidney preservation for transplantation. He developed a rat survival model of normothermic machine perfusion and transplantation, aiming to refine machine perfusion as a platform for functional testing and ex vivo treatment—ultimately to increase the number of successful kidney transplants. He serves on the board of the European Society for Organ Transplantation’s Cell Therapy and Organ Regeneration Section (ECTORS).
