Jacob Giehm Mikkelsen is Professor MSO at the Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University. His research centres on advancing genome engineering and gene-therapy technologies, with a particular focus on viral and non-viral gene delivery, CRISPR-based gene editing, and the molecular mechanisms that underlie disease.
At the Giehm Lab, his team develops and applies genome-wide screening tools to investigate cancer drug resistance, gene regulation in cancer and innate immunity, and gene correction strategies for primary immunodeficiencies. Their work utilises state-of-the-art pathogen vectors, transposons and gene-editing platforms to explore new therapeutic concepts.
Mikkelsen has published extensively in the fields of viral vectors, hematopoietic stem cell engineering, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and molecular medicine. His work aims not only at understanding disease mechanisms but also at translating this understanding into novel gene-therapeutic strategies.
