Biografi

Ian Hickie is a psychiatrist and internationally recognised leader in mental health research, policy, and reform. He is Professor of Psychiatry and Co-Director of Health and Policy at the University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Centre. His work focuses on depression, bipolar disorder, suicide prevention, and early intervention in young people, with a strong emphasis on integrating neuroscience, clinical care, and health systems. Hickie has been instrumental in pioneering digital health tools to improve access to mental health support and in shaping policy frameworks that link research directly to practice. He was one of Australia’s first National Mental Health Commissioners, driving structural reform and greater accountability in mental health services. A Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia and Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, he has held senior research fellowships and continues to influence national and global strategies for improving mental health.
