Frédéric Gachon is Professor of Medical Chronobiology at Aarhus University and the Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus. His research explores how the body’s internal clocks interact with feeding rhythms to regulate metabolism, gene expression and organ function. Disruptions of these rhythms – so-called chronodisruption – are linked to diabetes, obesity, liver disease and neurological disorders. Gachon earned his PhD in Montpellier and trained as a postdoctoral researcher in Geneva before holding positions in Lausanne, Montpellier, at the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences and at the University of Queensland. His group combines molecular biology, genomics, proteomics and computational methods to uncover how circadian clocks shape physiology, from detoxification and protein regulation to the influence of the microbiome. At Aarhus, he leads efforts to translate chronobiology into new approaches for disease prevention and treatment.
