Biografi

Francesco Muntoni is Professor of Paediatric Neurology at University College London and a leading expert in neuromuscular disorders, particularly Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). He is also Director of the Dubowitz Neuromuscular Centre at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.

Muntoni’s research focuses on understanding the genetic and molecular basis of neuromuscular diseases and translating these insights into therapies. He has played a central role in the development of exon-skipping approaches for DMD, helping to turn a genetic insight into a viable therapeutic strategy. His work spans clinical trials, natural history studies and biomarker development, aiming to improve diagnosis, treatment and long-term outcomes for patients.

Through close integration of research and clinical care, he has contributed to advancing innovative therapies and shaping international standards for neuromuscular disease management.
