Dr Biqing Zhu is a research scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria, where she works in the Integrated Assessment & Climate Change Research Group (Energy, Climate & Environment Programme) and in the Exploratory Modeling of Human-Natural Systems group under the Advancing Systems Analysis programme. She holds a PhD and brings expertise in biogeochemistry, greenhouse-gas emissions, environmental statistics and soil science. At IIASA she focuses on how human and natural systems interact in the climate challenge — for example quantifying carbon-cycle feedbacks, emission scenarios and Earth-system risk under temperature overshoot. Her recent work demonstrates that warming of northern peatlands may increase the global temperature-overshoot challenge, highlighting key hidden feedbacks in climate policy. She contributes to advancing modelling tools and data-driven insights that support sustainable decision-making and climate-resilient futures.
