Biografi

Anna Williams is Professor of Neurology at the University of Edinburgh and a consultant neurologist specialising in multiple sclerosis. Her research focuses on the mechanisms that drive neurodegeneration and disability progression in MS, with particular emphasis on why nerve damage accumulates even when inflammation is controlled.

Williams’ work combines clinical insight with advanced imaging, pathology and experimental approaches to study myelin loss, axonal injury and repair in the human brain. She is known for helping to shift the field’s attention towards progressive MS and the unmet need for treatments that protect neurons and promote repair. Her research bridges patient-centred neurology and fundamental disease mechanisms, contributing to improved understanding of MS progression and informing the development of future therapeutic strategies.
