Andreas Hougaard Laustsen-Kiel is Professor at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where he leads research in antibody engineering and biotechnology. His work focuses on developing novel therapeutics based on recombinant antibodies or nanobodies, particularly for treating envenoming from snakebites.

Laustsen combines protein engineering, synthetic biology and phage display technology to design next-generation antivenoms that are safer, more effective, and easier to produce than traditional serum-based treatments. His research aims to replace animal-derived antivenoms with fully human antibodies or nanobody-based therapies, addressing a major global health challenge affecting millions of people in low- and middle-income countries.

He has founded biotech initiatives and secured major research funding to translate his work into clinical applications, contributing to the development of innovative biologics and advancing the field of recombinant therapeutics.
