Alfred Ferrer Florensa is a data scientist and bioinformatician at the Technical University of Denmark, working in the Research Group for Genomic Epidemiology. His research focuses on applying machine learning to genomic data to understand and predict the behaviour of microorganisms, particularly their potential to cause disease.

He develops computational tools that can identify pathogenic potential directly from genome sequences, including for bacteria that do not closely resemble known pathogens. His work often uses protein-level representations and large-scale datasets to detect functional patterns linked to virulence. By combining bioinformatics, microbiology, and modelling, he aims to translate complex genomic data into actionable predictions for early detection and surveillance of infectious threats.
