Aiden Doherty is Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Oxford and a leading researcher in digital health and population-scale data science. His work focuses on using wearable devices and large datasets to understand human behaviour, physical activity and their links to disease.

Doherty develops methods to analyse data from smartphones and wearable sensors to objectively measure movement, sleep and lifestyle patterns in large populations. His research has helped clarify how physical activity relates to health outcomes, including chronic diseases and ageing, by moving beyond self-reported data to continuous, real-world measurements. He is closely involved in major cohort studies such as the UK Biobank, where wearable data are used to uncover early markers of disease risk.

By combining epidemiology, machine learning and sensor data, his work contributes to more precise, data-driven approaches to prevention and public health.
